Our commitments

Pig: Pigs are fed exclusively low nutrient feed throughout the year

We at Belgian Pork Group care about the planet and its future. It is our duty to think about this in every step and to look for improvements. The T&W pig farmer also has several opportunities to contribute to sustainable development. Investments such as solar panels, use of residual flows, use of our own raw materials, use of green energy ... contribute to this.

Every initiative that the T&W pig farmer undertakes receives our full support.

The T&W pig farmer has a plan of action regarding the management of water, waste and manure.

  • Water: There is an overview of current consumption and a plan that maximizes water reduction (e.g. cleaning stalls with rainwater, renewing gutters, etc.).
  • Waste: As long as we see manure only as waste, there are surpluses. The solution lies in sustainable processing. A plan can be presented that maximizes waste reduction or waste management.
  • Manure: We subscribe to the existing (already very strict) legal guidelines regarding manure legislation.

Since the new manure action plan (MAP6), it is mandatory to sow a percentage catch crop after the main crop. The catch crop absorbs the remaining nitrate-nitrogen and thus prevents nitrates from leaching into groundwater or streams. Different types of catch crops are allowed, such as yellow mustard, leafy radish or ryegrass or mixtures of these with sunflowers, for example.
Belgian Pork Group is therefore strongly in favor of all initiatives that reduce nitrate and phosphate levels in our soil.

Belgian Pork Group expects the T&W pig farmer to choose to use nutrient poor feed. The compound feed industry offers several modified feeds. These feeds have lower phosphate or nitrogen content than traditional feeds
